Ohhh bullshit ...... they all have to reinvent themselves to remain fresh .................. they get stale.
Hell, EC has done it several times.
But hey, whatever . I've got every album he ever released and have worn them out, he gets stale.

I've watched them both grow up. We saw him right after his first album broke out. Haven't seen him since. She's headlining a festival in Paola in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to hearing the new stuff. It seems as if I've seen basically the same show for the last 2 years.

She opened for KWS at that gig.
KWS is 42 yo. JoeB is 42 . Derek Trucks is 40. They were all guitar prodigies and appeared together around 1990 in some kind of battle of bands, pitting them against each other.
KWS bass player looks very drugged out, or is acting drugged out. Not much energy.

Saw Sam tobight headlining day 1 of the Paola Roots Festival. Very good, almost two hour set. She threw in maybe four new songs. I guess she's saving everything for the album release. The rest of the show consisted of pretty much the songs I've heard in my dozen or so shows in the last two years. I'm ready for something different. Her voice was a s good as ever as was her playing.

Its gonna be pretty much the same set list for anybody who tours all the time. And touring is how they make their money today, they're almost locked into staying on the road. Sources of revenue are touring and merch, album sales, get paid for radio plays, and streaming services. According to JoeB, the streaming services aren't paying anything. And blues/rock genre doesn't get played on the radio. And albums are too easy to pirate. That leaves going on the road. In the old days, the only reason a band hit the road was to promote a new studio album. But I did see that TTB really varied their set list for the Lockn Festival this weekend They tweeted a long thread on their show last night, played a lot of Derek and the Dominoes, somewhat of a departure for them

Ya know what we don't hear about SF, is what about her love life ? Man, she keeps that very very quiet.
I hate to sound like some nosy old woman at the bridge club, but I do wonder about her romantic inclinations.

They're playing the album, " Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs " .......... damn good album.

Lets put this into perspective ........... Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs was released in late 1970, like November.
Next year, the album will be 50 years old.
Now, I graduated from high school in 1970. Like never in million years when I was 18 yo would I have listened to music from 50 years earlier, like 1920's music.
But music from the 60's and 70's remains popular today. Just look at music advertisers use in ads, a lot of it is from that era. And that's really amazing, because its not Baby Boomers who spend money, its young people, and advertising using music from the 60's and 70's , is appealing to young people.
That was a golden era. I'm fortunate to have lived in that time.

But this Lockn Festival, is just a warm up for TTB ........ for when they get to Dallas next month, for the Clapton Guitar Festival ...... which is gonna be a huge love fest for Eric.
TTB just turned Lockn into a tribute to Eric.
And Derek Trucks, was named for Derek and the Dominoes. Eric did not want his name on the band, he wanted the band to stand on its own, so they used the name Derek.

I understand that. It's just when she plays here or close ,by I ,always hope she'll put a wrinkle or two in the show. At her year ,end show last year she pretty much stayed the same but did toss in a few oldies. She has also put Bitch On The run at the end but not much. That was why it was nice to hear the new stuff she did play. At Danielle's last show they played quite a few new songs and that was nice. She always throws in some covers and such anyway. Sam's album comes out 9/20 so the next show should be different.
I don't know anything about Sam's love life. I know it's not me and my groups don't really gossip like that. You never hear much about Danielle and Brandon even after what, three years?

I'm hoping TTB makes it here again. I really enjoyed their last show. There are several groups that don't have us down - Southern Ave, Jimmy Vaughan, Larkin Poe. I can only hope.
