Not very impressed with this choice.
Too much neocon in his lineage.
McCain endorses him. Enough said.

It was reported that retiring Justice Kennedy talked to Trump, I wonder if he brought up Kavanuaugh as a replacement? Also, as you said, he is known to be close to former President Bush. Given the hostilities between both men and the GOP factions, I wonder if this was a sort of olive branch to try and rally the Republicans under a united front,(which they have been far from)?

Just one thing...
Leftists/media are losing their fucking minds due to a conservative judge retiring and possibly to be replaced by a "far right" nominee...ok, but one question
If Obama or Hillary were POTUS and Sotomayor or Kagan or Ginsburg happened to retire...would conservatives lose their mind? Well, no actually...not at all.
The reason?
They're activist shills...you couldn't possibly do any worse.
Leftists, you wanted blind idealogues in the ONE place they shouldn't be...well, your wishes are still being fulfilled, I guess.
Go fuck yourself, democrats

My biggest problem with the choice:
There were several others available that would have triggered just as many objections from the left, but who would have been much more palatable to constitutional / liberty minded people.
Kavanaugh has too much neocon support for my taste (Bush, McCain, etc). and he is also a protégé of Ken Starr.
Trump could have done better.
But we are stuck with his choice.

www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-sports-cashman-trump-kavanaugh-supreme-court-20180710-story.htmlBrian Cashman thinks Donald Trump hit a grand slam with his controversial Supreme Court nominee. The Yankees GM signed a letter endorsing Brett Kavanaugh, the conservative stalwart who if confirmed by the Senate will further shift the court to the right in the midst of Justice Anthony Kennedy’s sudden departure from the bench . The endorsement is far from out of left field. Cashman and Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Prep at the same time in the 1980s, along with current Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

It’s mixing football with politics the league and its owners find distasteful. That was made abundantly clear Monday night, when the Arizona Cardinals posted a story on their website lavishing praise on new Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh from team president Michael Bidwill. Shortly after, it retweeted a post by Adam Schefter with the letter Bidwill and fellow high school classmates are sending to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of Kavanaugh. So much for sticking to sports. Bidwill has every right to be enthusiastic about a longtime friend’s new career opportunity, and even to stump for him. They go back almost 40 years, to their days at Georgetown Prep, and have remained good enough friends that Bidwill was a guest at Kavanaugh’s 2004 wedding. But Bidwill was not promoting Kavanaugh’s nomination as Mike Bidwill, anonymous rich white guy from Phoenix. He was doing it as the owner of the Arizona Cardinals, giving the team’s endorsement to a Supreme Court candidate who, given the gaping divide in this country, is being viewed by many with suspicion and fear.

dailycaller.com/2018/07/10/kellyanne-conway-scotus-video/White House counselor Kellyanne Conway called out the establishment media for their coverage of President Trump’s new Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh on Fox News Tuesday. “[Trump] landed on a man who has sat on the D.C. Circuit, the court right below the United States Supreme Court where he has authored a breadth of opinions, that people should go and look,” Conway said. “If you listen to a lot of commentators on cable news, and elsewhere on Twitter, they act like the Supreme Court only talks about abortion and Roe v. Wade.” “If you look at the last two weeks of the Supreme Court’s term this year, the breadth and depth of the opinions that they actually issued gives you a clue as to what they consider in a typical term,” she added. “So this is a man who has presided over any number of cases that deal with personal liberties, pocketbook issues, administrative actions, and he is incredibly qualified. I give President Trump enormous credit, because we saw up close and personal how deliberative he was about this process.”

dailycaller.com/2018/07/10/nbc-reporter-kennedy-retirement/An NBC News reporter tweeted early Tuesday that Justice Anthony Kennedy secretly negotiated the terms of his departure from the U.S. Supreme Court with the Trump administration, citing a single unnamed source. The reporters pursuing the story, Leigh Ann Caldwell and Frank Thorp, first claimed that the justice quietly conferred with the White House for several months in advance of his retirement, and agreed to step aside once he received assurances that Judge Brett Kavanaugh would be selected as his successor. Caldwell walked back her initial claim, conceding it “incorrectly implies a transactional nature in Kennedy’s replacement.” She then said that Kennedy provided a list of acceptable nominees to the administration, which included Kavanaugh.

www.nationalreview.com/bench-memos/judge-kavanaugh-on-justice-scalia-a-hero-and-a-role-model/Judge Kavanaugh on Justice Scalia: ‘A Hero and a Role Model’ By ED WHELAN July 10, 2018 9:14 AM Here are excerpts from a speech that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh delivered at Antonin Scalia Law School in June 2016: Let me start with a few personal reflections about Justice Scalia. Many of you no doubt knew him better than I did. So I do not want to overstate my relationship with him. But I just loved the guy. To me, Justice Scalia was and remains a hero and a role model. He thought carefully about his principles, he articulated those principles, and he stood up for those principles. As a judge, he did not buckle to political or academic pressure from the right or the left…. He loved his wife and family. He was a man of faith. And he really was a man for others. Of course, at a prayer breakfast one time, I presented to a group of about 20 fellow judges about the influence on my life of my Jesuit high school Georgetown Prep and its motto “men for others.” At the end of the talk, Justice Scalia said—in front of the whole group, I might add—about how I was not accurately interpreting the original meaning of the school’s motto and ought to get it straight. I don’t think he was kidding either.

www.breitbart.com/video/2018/07/09/kavanaugh-judges-must-interpret-not-make-law-interpret-statues-and-constitution-as-written/He later added, “My judicial philosophy is straightforward. A judge must be independent and must interpret the law, not make the law. A judge must interpret statutes as written, and a judge must interpret the Constitution as written, informed by history and tradition and precedent. For the past 11 years, I’ve taught hundreds of students, primarily at Harvard Law School. I teach that the Constitution’s separation of powers protects individual liberty, and I remain grateful to the dean who hired me, Justice Elena Kagan. As a judge, I hire four law clerks each year. I look for the best. My law clerks come from diverse backgrounds and points of view. I am proud that a majority of my law clerks have been women.” Kavanaugh concluded, “I will tell each senator that I revere the Constitution. I believe that an independent judiciary is the crown jewel of our constitutional republic. If confirmed by the Senate, I will keep an open mind in every case, and I will always strive to preserve the Constitution of the United States and the American rule of law.”
