dailycaller.com/2019/04/05/splc-senior-official-threatens-to-call-cops-on-reporter/Two of the remaining top-level staff at the embattled Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) threatened to call the police on a Daily Caller reporter on Thursday, as he tried to ask about their knowledge of sexual harassment by Morris Dees. Heidi Beirich and Maureen Costello, Director of the Intelligence Project and Teaching Tolerance respectively, were spotted in downtown DC, coming in and out of the Daily Caller’s building throughout the day. Costello took over the Teaching Tolerance project in 2010, and Beirich joined the SPLC back in 1999. The board and senior leadership of the SPLC has for years been stacked with friends and allies of the disgraced founder Morris Dees. Dees, according to two letters by staffers, had been accused in “multiple reports of sexual harassment by Dees through the years [which] had been ignored or covered up, and sometimes resulted in retaliation against the women making the claims,” according to The New Yorker. (RELATED: Sen. Tom Cotton Calls For SPLC To Lose Tax-Exempt Status) Few details have emerged about what has gone on within the Montgomery-based nonprofit since the departure in recent weeks of founder Morris Dees, president Richard Cohen, and several others. The Daily Caller’s Wyatt Dobrovich-Fago took the opportunity of their visit to the nation’s capital to ask the embattled warriors of tolerance what they knew about their former colleague’s alleged lechery. After a brief exchange in the lobby of the building, the SPLC officials attempted to ignore the Daily Caller reporter, then threatened to call the police if he continued to ask questions. “Do you know anything about the sexual harassment of-” the reporter began. “I’m not joking. I’m asking you to step off and if you don’t I’ll call the cops.” SPLC Intelligence Project Director Heidi Beirich interrupted. Trouble in liberal paradise? Say it's not so. www.city-journal.org/seattle-residents-rebelling-homelessnessA Brewing Rebellion in the Emerald City Seattle residents are losing patience with the city’s out-of-control homelessness problem. Christopher F. Rufo April 2, 2019 For the past five years, like many of its West Coast counterparts, Seattle has endured a steady expansion of homelessness, addiction, mental illness, crime, and street disorder. But the activist class—a political and cultural elite comprising leaders in government, nonprofits, philanthropy, and media—has enforced a strict taboo on declaring the obvious: something is terribly wrong in the Emerald City. Last month, veteran Seattle reporter Eric Johnson of KOMO violated that taboo with a shocking, hour-long documentary called Seattle is Dying, which revealed how the city has allowed a small subset of the homeless population—drug-addicted and mentally-ill criminals—to wreak havoc. Johnson’s portrait is backed up by evidence from King County homelessness data, by city attorney candidate Scott Lindsay’s “prolific offender” report on 100 homeless individuals responsible for more than 3,500 criminal cases, and by my own reporting on the homelessness crisis. In the past two weeks, Seattle Is Dying has garnered 38,000 shares on Facebook and nearly 2 million views on YouTube. The report has clearly resonated with anxious, fearful, and increasingly angry Seattle residents. Exhausted by a decade of rising disorder and property crime—now two-and-a-half times higher than Los Angeles’s and four times higher than New York City’s—Seattle voters may have reached the point of “compassion fatigue.” According to the Seattle Times, 53 percent of Seattle voters now support a “zero-tolerance policy” on homeless encampments; 62 percent believe that the problem is getting worse because the city “wastes money by being inefficient” and “is not accountable for how the money is spent,” and that “too many resources are spent on the wrong approaches to the problem.” The city council insists that new tax revenues are necessary, including a head tax on large employers, but only 7 percent of Seattle voters think that the city is “not spending enough to really solve the problem.” For a famously progressive city, this is a remarkable shift in public opinion. Despite this growing consensus, the activist class is pushing back. According to leaked documents, the City of Seattle and its allies have retained a crisis-communications firm to discredit Johnson and insist, notwithstanding all evidence to the contrary, that “Seattle is making progress to end homelessness, and proven solutions are working.” It’s quite a strategy: Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan is using taxpayer resources to attack a respected local journalist and convince taxpayers that they shouldn’t trust their own experience. The city’s nonprofit and academic partners—mainstays of the homeless-industrial complex—have also launched coordinated attacks against the critics. Timothy Harris, director of Real Change News, has argued that grassroots neighborhood groups like Speak Out Seattle and labor unions like the Iron Workers Local 86 who opposed the city’s head tax are “alt-right” white supremacists, bigots, and fascists. Catherine Hinrichsen, director of the Project on Family Homelessness at Seattle University, accused Johnson of “hate-mongering” and spreading “fear.” After dictating homelessness policy for a generation, the activist class is losing the narrative—and this accounts for its increasingly desperate counterattacks. As their support among voters erodes and principled journalists like Johnson break the silence about homelessness, they fall back on branding their concerned neighbors “bigots,” “fascists,” and “white supremacists.” It’s not working the way it used to. In Seattle, a reckoning on homelessness may not be far off. Christopher F. Rufo is a filmmaker, writer, and policy researcher. He’s the executive director of the Documentary Foundation and a research fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center for Wealth & Poverty. ...... dailycaller.com/2019/04/06/democrats-media-edited-clip-trump-ms-13/Democrats and members of the establishment media fell for a viral clip purporting that President Donald Trump called asylum seekers “animals” on Friday at an immigration roundtable. In reality, the clip in question is from an event in May 2018 when the president was clearly referring to members of the MS-13 gang as “animals.” At the time, CSPAN posted a deceptively edited clip that cut out someone else’s remark about MS-13 that the president responded to, making it sound like Trump was talking about immigrants more generally. (RELATED: Media Falsely Accuses Trump Of Calling MS-13 Animals) The shortened clip was reposted on Friday by Twitter user Mark Elliot, who falsely claimed that the president was referring to “people asking for asylum” and did not indicate that Trump’s remarks were not new. “We have people coming into the country…You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals,” Trump said in the video.

On the flip-side, 46 percent said their monthly premiums are now worse. On the issue of co-pays, only 13 percent say their co-pays are better while 35 percent say worse. On the issues of covered services, prescription drugs, and access to the same medical providers, respectively, only 17 percent, 17 percent, and 16 percent say things are better while 34 percent, 35 percent, and a plurality of 41 percent say worse. Other than the issue of provider access, on these same questions a plurality said nothing has changed.

www.dailywire.com/news/45648/nyc-casting-call-says-white-artists-will-be-paid-frank-campA casting call was recently posted on Backstage, a website for actors and technicians, for a small ensemble play in New York City. Underneath the "rehearsal" heading, the call stated that white actors who were cast in the show would participate in a mandatory "anti-racism training" session. That training session would not be mandatory for actors of other races. Under the "compensation" heading, the call stated that actors of color would be paid more than white actors. The original text under the "rehearsal" and "compensation" sections read: Please note we are working on organizing a short (3 – 4 hour) anti-racism training for the creative team and ensemble in April – to help us address power dynamics and reduce harm within the creative process. This training will be open to all ensemble members and creative team members, but will be mandatory only for white ensemble/creatives. Pays a small stipend (minimum $150) for the spring workshop period. Due to the content of this particular project, resources are being allocated in favor of POC collaborators. This means that POC artists will receive a larger stipend than the white artists working on this project. Additionally, although the character breakdowns are non-descriptive, the "stage manager (staff/crew)" section reads as follows: If you're interested, please email a resume ... and tell us a little bit about yourself and why you're interested in working on this project. If you're white, we'd also love to hear a little bit about what accountability to people of color within a creative process means to you. On or around Monday, April 1, the "compensation" text suddenly changed. It now simply reads: "Pays a small stipend (minimum $150) for the spring workshop period." In order to understand why the changes were made, I reached out to the playwright via email. Within a few hours, the playwright got back to me with a question: "What do you mean about the compensation part changing?" A few minutes later came a second reply: Troubled by the idea of payment tiers seemingly based on race alone, as well as mandatory anti-racism training for only white actors, I reached out to several legal scholars for clarification. I asked Professor John Donohue of Stanford Law the following questions, having providing him with the information from the casting call: Is it legal to pay people (actors in the cast) differently based on race? Is the mandatory "anti-racism training" only for white cast members legal? Donohue replied, simply stating: "Not allowed under federal employment discrimination law (and presumably state anti-discrimination law as well)." Professor Elizabeth Bartholet of Harvard Law said that although she doesn’t know "what justification" the authors of the casting call "present or have for paying different races differently, if the payment tiers are based only on race, it would not be legal." She added that it "would be illegal to require one race and not another to go through the anti-racism training if based only on race." With this information in hand, I reached out to the playwright on Friday, writing: "I’ve spoken with two legal professors, both of whom told me that paying people differently based solely on race is likely not legal. Would you like to comment for the piece?" I have yet to receive a reply. However, as of Friday, something else has changed. There’s no longer any mention of the "anti-racism training" underneath the "rehearsal" heading. It now states: "Rehearses April & May, with a work in process showing in June." Auditions are allegedly underway.

dailycaller.com/2019/04/06/obama-progressives-circular-firing-squad/Former President Barack Obama lamented that progressives obsessed with “purity” on ideological issues could be creating a “circular firing squad” by taking aim at their allies. The former president was speaking on Saturday at a town hall event for the Obama Foundation in Berlin. He reportedly used the Affordable Care Act as an example of compromising without achieving all of one’s goals. “One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives in the United States —maybe it’s true here as well — is a certain kind of rigidity where we say, ‘Uh, I’m sorry, this is how it’s going to be,’ and then we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad,’ where you start shooting at your allies because one of them has strayed from purity on the issues,” Obama said, according to The Hill. “And when that happens, typically the overall effort and movement weakens.”

www.dailywire.com/news/45658/war-dccc-freezes-out-progressive-campaign-emily-zanottiThe campaign consultants behind Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) meteoric rise to national prominence want to extend their "progressive primary" crusade to every Democratic House race in the country, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is standing in their way. But Justice Democrats, the controversial operation behind Ocasio-Cortez's win -- the same group that has now been hit with several FEC complaints over how it mixed its money with Cortez's campaign coffers -- is fighting back, and threatening to declare open war within the Democratic party if they aren't allowed to take on existing, moderate candidates. This week, Roll Call reports, the DCCC voted to "freeze out" Justice Democrats from getting lucrative contracts with Democratic House contenders across the country. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the D.C. based outlet says, has a "newly stated policy that it will not grant contracts to pollsters, strategists and communications specialists working with primary challengers." "Still, the new policy moves millions of expenditures by the DCCC off the table for firms that work with candidates who challenge Democratic incumbents," Roll Call adds. Justice Democrats exists largely to primary moderate and, in many cases, older Democrats who they feel are standing in the way of real progressive progress. Initially, before Ocasio-Cortez won office, they seemed like an outlier company, standing behind a number of campaigns that all, inevitably, lost. But with Ocasio-Cortez's success, the Justice Democrats are in demand (aside from their teeny-tiny issues with the Federal Election Commission, of course). In response, the Justice Democrats have created the "DCCC Blacklist," a website that chronicles all of the progressive-owned "pollsters, strategists and communications specialists" as well as "political vendors, political action committees, and advocacy groups" who are willing to provide their services to specifically progressive candidates, including those looking to launch primary challenges to other Democrats.

dailycaller.com/2019/04/07/pelosi-house-2020/Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will maintain control of the House in 2020. “I’m going to have our races won by this November,” Pelosi said in an interview with The Washington Post. She also said Republicans will rethink running. It’s going to cost you millions of dollars, to win or lose. And if you win — say you win — you’re in the minority,” Pelosi continued. Pelosi predicted she would be elected speaker of the House before the vote in January, despite Democratic Reps. Kathleen Rice of New York, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Filemon Vela of Texas and Tim Ryan of Ohio calling for Pelosi to relinquish her leadership role. www.foxnews.com/politics/immigration-civil-rights-groups-pressure-fortune-500-companies-to-blacklist-former-trump-officialsAs outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen looks for her next job following her resignation Sunday, she may find herself battling a liberal blacklisting effort against those who’ve served in the Trump administration. Nielsen’s name appears on a list that a cabal of immigration and civil rights groups recently sent to the CEOs of American companies, urging them not to hire Trump officials who were involved in last year’s separation of migrant children from their families. Other current and former Trump administration officials targeted include John Kelly, the former White House chief of staff, and Sarah Sanders, the current White House press secretary. “Some of these individuals have left the administration in recent months,” the letter to the CEOs states. “Regardless of when they leave, they should not be allowed to seek refuge in your boardrooms or corner offices. Allowing them to step off the revolving door and into your welcoming arms should be a nonstarter.”

news.grabien.com/story-new-record-obama-mentions-himself-467-times-during-berlin-tocommunity leadership and civic engagement” on behalf of his eponymous Obama Foundation, but Berliners soon discovered his main topic of interest was ... Barack Obama. Obama talking about himself in an almost obsessive manner is no new phenomenon, but today he shattered his own records. Over the course of a 90 minute townhall with "emerging leaders," Obama mentioned himself an eye-popping 392 times. Here's the breakdown of his personal pronoun use (based on a rush transcript of the event): "I" — 274 "Me" — 25 "My" — 31 "I’d" — 9 "I’m" — 41 "Myself" — 7 “Obama” — 5 The former president's comments began on his favorite topic: himself. "It’s been over ten years since I spoke to a slightly larger crowd in front of the Victory Column when I was running for president," Obama said to a notably quiet crowd. "I had a little less gray hair then. And since then I’ve been back to Germany I think at least ten times. I’ve been to Europe countless times. But I’m as excited to be here with you as I have been ever when I’ve come to Europe."

www.dailywire.com/news/45695/predictable-minimum-wage-increase-new-york-city-ashe-schowDemocrats continue to insist American cities should increase the minimum wage to at least $15 an hour, even as the progressive cities that have done so have been a model for the job losses that will come as a result of the policy. comes from New York City, where an online survey from the New York City Hospitality Alliance – which represents NYC restaurants – found the wage increase has hurt restaurant workers who were supposed to be helped by the higher minimum wage. The New York Post reported last week that the survey found job losses due to the policy. Andrew Rigie, NYCHA’s executive director, told the Post that in 2018, “full-service restaurants recorded a 1.6 percent job loss, which is the first recorded annual loss in two decades.” The survey also found that nearly one-third of respondents planned to “eliminate jobs” and a majority would raise prices due to the increased minimum wage, which took effect on December 31, 2018. While the policy wasn’t in effect when the actual job losses occurred, it was well-known that it was coming, and so it is likely that restaurant owners reacted accordingly in preparation. Further, respondents to the online survey said they plan to continue cutting jobs and hours because of the policy.

www.dailywire.com/news/45754/michigan-private-school-linked-iran-and-hezbollah-josh-hammerAccording to a new report from the well-known organization, Clarion Project — which describes itself as "a non-profit organization that educates the public about the dangers of radical Islam" and upon whose advisory board frequent Fox News contributor and Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, sits — a private Islamic school in Dearborn, Michigan has unusually close ties with supporters of the fanatical Iranian regime and its Lebanon-based proxy terrorist group, Hezbollah. Per Clarion Project: Clarion Project has discovered that a private Islamic school in Dearborn, Michigan is linked to diehard supporters of Hezbollah and the Iranian regime. The school teaches students from kindergarten through 9th grade. Great Revelations Academy was founded in 2015 by open supporters of Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. By their own admission, the school’s founders are dedicated to spreading his message. Fadlallah was a supporter of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran and is considered to be a key inspirer of Hezbollah. Some go so far as to describe him as the terrorist group’s "spiritual leader." Fadlallah supported the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut that killed 241 U.S. Marines (who were serving as peacekeepers) as well as 58 French troops and six civilians. In 2005, he reiterated his support for suicide bombings against Israel. When he died in Lebanon in 2010, Hezbollah called for three days of mourning. Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei sent his condolences.

Another liberal hero about to go down? Interesting how President Trump's enemies are destroying themselves: www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-09/trudeau-broke-law-when-he-expelled-critics-liberal-caucus-mp-saysCanadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can't seem to get out of his own way. Just as the furor from what's become known as the SNC-Lavalin scandal was dying down, Trudeau has given two of his former cabinet ministers who were at the center of the drama reason to revive it. Former Treasury Board minister Jane Philpott, who resigned from Trudeau's cabinet in protest after the scandal broke, has asked the speaker of Canada's House of Commons to rule that Trudeau violated Canadian law when he unilaterally expelled her and former Justice Minister and AG Jody Wilson-Raybould from the Liberal Party caucus last week. According to the Globe and Mail, a law called the Parliament of Canada Act - which was amended in 2015 to include a process for expelling members from a party caucus - stipulates that a caucus vote via secret ballot must be held before an MP can be ejected. Trudeau didn't hold a vote before effectively exiling the two dissident women from the party last week.Trudeau told journalists last week he made the decision to oust them, saying "I have taken the decision to expel the honourable members from caucus." For those who haven't been following the scandal, it started when the Globe and Mail reported earlier this year that Trudeau had pushed Wilson-Raybould out of his cabinet by demoting her to a lesser position after she refused to offer SNC-Lavalin, a Quebec-based engineering firm accused of corruption for bribing Libyan government officials, a deferred prosecution in accordance with the PM's wishes. During testimony before a Parliamentary committee, Wilson-Raybould described a campaign of inappropriate political pressure carried out by employees in Trudeau's office and the privy service, supposedly at the direction of the PM. When Wilson-Raybould refused, she was moved during a cabinet shakeup. Wilson-Raybould has alleged that Trudeau was concerned about job losses in his home constituency in Quebec should SNC-Lavalin be stripped of its ability to win government contracts. The prime minister has maintained that he did nothing wrong, and that he told Wilson-Raybould that the decision was ultimately hers to make. Adding a layer of irony to the situation, both MPs, who resigned from Trudeau's cabinet in March, were part of the new wave of more diverse MPs elected in 2015, and were part of the "gender balanced" cabinet appointed by the PM in 2017 after his electoral victory. Trudeau's treatment of the two has prompted accusations that Trudeau is a "fake feminist" - claims that will undoubtedly be bolstered by the fact that he violated the law to discriminate against them. With the party's standing in the polls sliding due to the scandal, the Liberal majority has nevertheless rallied around their leader, recently blocking two Commons committee investigations into the scandal. The opposition, meanwhile, has called on Trudeau to resign. But without any pressure from within his own party, it's unlikely that he will acquiesce to these demands.

What needs to happen next is, all of these conservative sites need to ban together and take the Tech companies to court over this blatant censorship. dailycaller.com/2019/04/09/google-news-blacklist-search-manipulation/Google does manipulate its search results manually, contrary to the company’s official denials, documents obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller indicate. Two official policies dubbed the “misrepresentation policy” and the “good neighbor policy” inform the company’s “XPA news blacklist,” which is maintained by Google’s Trust & Safety team. “T&S will be in charge of updating the blacklist as when there is a demand,” reads one of the documents shared with The Daily Caller. “The deceptive_news domain blacklist is going to be used by many search features to filter problematic sites that violate the good neighbor and misrepresentation policies,” the policy document says. (RELATED: Meet The Five Google Staffers Who Circulated The Petition To Drop Kay Coles James) That document reads that it was, “approved by gomes@, nayak@, haahr@ as of 8/13/2018.” Ben Gomes is Google’s head of search, who reports directly to CEO Sundar Pichai. Pandu Nayak is a Google Fellow, and Paul Haahr is a software engineer, whose bio on Google’s internal network Moma indicates that he is also involved in, “fringe ranking: not showing fake news, hate speech, conspiracy theories, or science/medical/history denial unless we’re sure that’s what the user wants.” “The purpose of the blacklist will be to bar the sites from surfacing in any Search feature or news product. It will not cause a demotion in the organic search results or de-index them altogether,” reads the policy document obtained by the Caller. What that means is that targeted sites will not be removed from the “ten blue links” portion of search results, but the blacklist applies to most of the other search features, like “top news,” “videos” or the various sidebars that are returned as search results. Eligibility for GNP [Good Neighbor Policy] enforcement,” the types of search results impacted by the policy are described: “If your product shows any of the following, Misrep and GNP would apply to your PA. Shows content from users and news publishers (percieved 3P voice). Ex: UGC, News corpus, etc. Outputs single answers (perceived to come from the open web). Ex: Web answers, Video answers, etc. Shows content owned, licensed, or edited by Google (perceived to come directly from Google). Ex: Knowledge panels, News summaries, Oneboxes, Munin carousels, etc.” The “ten blue links” may not be impacted by the blacklist, but virtually every other kind of Google search result is. While hard numbers are not available for how much traffic is directed through the 10 links versus the other search blocks, since the latter appear so high on the results page, the impact could be significant. (RELATED: Applause At Google’s All-Hands Meeting As Company Drops Heritage Foundation President) “Focus on the user,” said a source at Google who described the program to the Caller. “Users need to trust any content that Google shows them, whether it’s the 10 blue links or other special search results.” Sundar Pichai testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Dec. 11 of last year. Democratic California Rep. Zoe Lofgren asked why a search for the term “idiot” returned a photo of President Trump. In response, Pichai said, “This is working at scale, we don’t manually intervene on any particular search result.” A memo about the deceptive news blacklist was also obtained by the Caller, showing its last edit as Dec. 3, 2018, a week before Pichai’s congressional testimony. This document, which describes the process by which a site can be blacklisted for deceptive news, clearly shows that there is a manual component: “The beginning of the workflow starts when a website is placed on a watchlist which is used for monitoring of sites to determine if they violate the Good Neighbor Policy. This watchlist is maintained and stored by Ares with access restricted to policy & enforcement specialists working on the Good Neighbor Policy. Access to the listing can also be shared at the discretion of pcounsel and legal investigations on a need to know basis to enforce or enrich the policy violations. The investigation of the watchlist is done in the tool Athena, the Ares manual review tool, and intakes signals from Search, Webspan, and Ares in order to complete reviews. … Once a domain is determined to be violating the misrepresentation policy or the Good Neighbor Policy, such patterns are then added to deceptive_news_blacklist_domains.txt by the Trust & Safety team.” The document indicates that there is, among other things, a “manual review tool” involved in maintaining the blacklist. On the blacklist are a number of conservative sites, including Gateway Pundit, Matt Walsh’s blog, Gary North’s blog “teapartyeconomist.com,” Caroline Glick’s website, Conservative Tribune, a property of The Western Journal and the website of the American Spectator. “You can’t trust the human judgment of Google’s Trust and Safety team,” said the source at Google with knowledge of their practices. Requests for comment from Google’s press team have gone unreturned as of publication time. Update: A Google spokesperson provided the following statement to the Daily Caller after this story was published: “We do not manually determine the order of any search result, nor do our algorithms or policies attempt to make any judgement on the political leanings of a website. Our Google News inclusion policies are publicly available online. They provide guidelines on content and behaviors for matters like sponsored content, deceptive practices, and more. Sites that do not adhere to these policies are not eligible to appear on news surfaces or in information boxes in Search. These policies do not impact the way these sites appear in organic blue-link Google Search results.”

dailycaller.com/2019/04/09/house-democrats-budget-vote/Democrats in the House of Representatives canceled a scheduled vote on a two-year budget bill Tuesday as the more moderate members of the party are clashing with the progressive members. Many members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus pushed back against the budget bill, saying the bill is too focused on funding for the Pentagon instead of funding for domestic programs, according to Politico. More moderate members in the Blue Dog Coalition also are coming out against the bill, but for different reasons, saying the bill is too expensive. Democrats are likely to cancel the vote for the bill, unless they can come to an agreement in their leadership meeting Tuesday night. The canceled vote would be a bad sign for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, as it would show her party is not united under her leadership. the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told leadership staffers in the House they do not have the votes to pass the legislation, according to Politico. “There is a math problem, period, if they want to do the vote tomorrow,” he said. Pramila Jayapal said. House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth said he believes this will be “harmful” to his party, adding it “minimizes our leverage in negotiations with Senate and the White House.” There are reportedly 22 progressive Democrats who will not support the bill unless it includes billions of dollars for domestic funding.
