Vazquez is one of six former OSU wrestlers who told CNN in recent interviews that they were present when Jordan heard or responded to sexual misconduct complaints about team doctor Richard Strauss. I mean these are guys I trained with, these are guys I worked out with, I ran with, wrestled with, and the idea that now they are saying what they are, it's just not true." "I even told them that if I had to go through this again, I'm not staying here," Yetts told CNN. So I literally got up off the table, turned around and busted through the door," Yetts said. Yetts said he came out and complained to Jordan and other wrestlers about what happened. He said Jordan responded by saying something like, "If he tried that on me, I would kill him." Two former wrestlers, Shawn Dailey and Mike Glane, told CNN they remember witnessing Yetts complain about Strauss' behavior immediately after the incident, in the presence of Jordan. NBC News first reported the description of that event from Yetts, who has had his credibility questioned by Jordan supporters because he served 18 months in prison for fraud. Yetts said he made a mistake, did his time and has moved on. In a lawsuit filed last year, a wrestling referee alleged Strauss masturbated in front of him inside a locker-room shower in the mid-1990s, and that when he reported the incident to then-coaches Jordan and Hellickson, they responded, "Yeah, that's Strauss," and did not take further action. Neither Jordan nor Hellickson was named as a defendant in the suit. Hellickson told CNN in 2018 that he had had a discussion with Strauss about his physical contact with the wrestlers, and told Strauss that wrestlers were uncomfortable showering with the doctor. He also defended Jordan and said Jordan may not have known about the alleged abuse. Yet despite that earlier statement, Hellickson told CNN in a recent interview, "I learned of Dr. Strauss' abuse two years ago. No one on any team ever told me a thing about being abused by Dr. Strauss." Hellickson and five former OSU assistant coaches who worked with Jordan previously issued a joint statement that said, "None of us saw or heard of abuse of OSU wrestlers. The well-being of student-athletes was all of our concern. If we had heard of any abuse, we would have spoken up." Jordan pushed back on allegations When allegations about what Jordan knew regarding Strauss first surfaced two years ago, the Ohio lawmaker actively disputed the accusations. His campaign turned to the PR company Shirley & Banister Public Affairs, which distributed statements on the matter and set up a website presenting support for Jordan. Jordan's campaign paid the firm about $95,000 in 2018, according to campaign finance records. The firm's founder, Craig Shirley, initially told CNN his firm did not provide services to the Jordan campaign unrelated to the Strauss matter, but later said that the firm also worked on "other things" for the campaign, though he did not provide detail. Former OSU wrestler Adam DiSabato told Ohio state legislators in February that Jordan called him in 2018 and asked him to contradict statements by his brother, who had publicly alleged Jordan knew about Strauss' abuse when he worked for the university. Rick Burlenski, another former OSU wrestler, said Jordan also called him in July 2018 and thanked him, after Burlenski told POLITICO that he "never had an issue with Dr. Strauss" and said of OSU coaches at the time, "If there was an issue, I would have thought those guys would have handled it." Burlenski said in an interview with CNN that upon further reflection, he has realized that Strauss' examinations of him and other wrestlers were inappropriate. "When I got the first phone call from a reporter in 2018, I made everything sound like it was hunky-dory and I thought it was going to go away, but then I heard the extent of it," Burlenski said. "It's mind-boggling. It should have been stopped before it got to us." Burlenski said he doesn't know whether Jordan, whom he described as a supportive coach, would have known about the abuse, though he said he remembers upperclassmen openly teasing incoming athletes about Strauss' examinations, as if they were a hazing ritual. "I would guess that, realistically, if you're on the coaching staff you would know something about it, but whether they heard specifics and were more directly involved, that's another question," Burlenski said. That suit was not among the group of settlements that OSU announced on Friday. The suit involving Yetts also argues the university failed to protect students from voyeurism and other harassment that occurred within their locker room and shower facility, which was open to the general OSU population. OSU and victims of Strauss have been involved in a mediation process, but attorneys for plaintiffs in four lawsuits recently asked a federal judge to allow litigation to resume because "OSU has refused to engage in productive settlements talks," according to a letter they filed in court. An OSU spokesperson, Ben Johnson, said the university is actively participating in a good-faith mediation process. "Ohio State has led the effort to investigate and expose Richard Strauss' abuse and the university's failure at the time to adequately respond to or prevent it. We express our deep regret and apologies to all who experienced Strauss' abuse and remain actively committed to a fair resolution, including a monetary resolution," Johnson said in a statement. Hunter Shepard, who wrestled for OSU in the mid-90s, said he just wants closure on a dark chapter in his life that continues to haunt him today. He described Strauss as a consistent presence within the wrestling team. Aside from abusive examinations, he said Strauss would shower with athletes, sit in the sauna with team members and invite them to his house. Shepard believes that Jordan, along with numerous other university personnel, was aware of Strauss' behavior and should have done more. Harris is just the latest in a string of academics to levy criticism on Hannah-Jones and the 1619 Project. She is the first, however, who actually took part in the project as a fact-checker. During the publication process for 1619, Harris “vigorously disputed” the idea that the American Revolution was actually about preserving slavery. Nonetheless, there it was in print come August 2019. While Harris cautions that some conservatives are too quick to call the whole project a wash, she is among a handful of American History academics ringing alarm bells that the project should issue corrections. These calls also come as several public school systems signal their intent to add 1619 to their curriculums. Written by journalists and opinion writers, the project attempts “to reframe the country’s history” by suggesting America’s “true founding” was when the first slaves arrived in 1619. Within days of its launch, multiple top historians pointed out glaring factual inaccuracies. Their concerns, however, went largely ignored, save for one response from NYT editor Josh Silverstein essentially dismissing a letter sent by five such historians. The historians persisted, turning to op-eds and the World Socialist Web Site to urge the publication to take a second look at some of its reporting. Historian Gordon Wood, a professor at Brown University, even sent a follow-up letter to Silverstein, giving the editor-in-chief permission to publish. Primis Player Placeholder “In the long run the Project will lose its credibility, standing, and persuasiveness with the nation as a whole,” Wood wrote in the letter, which urged the publication to issue corrections. This letter, previously obtained by the Daily Caller, was never published by the NYT. In the meantime, the “1619 Project” had quickly begun to infiltrate American public schools, spreading from New York to California – complete with all of the inaccuracies the historians spent months pointing out. “The schools can say they’re not responsible, and they can turn to the parents and say you’re not responsible,” Bob Woodson, founder of The Woodson Center and the “1776” initiative, which is aimed at rebutting the NYT 1619 Project, told the Daily Caller. “None of us are responsible for their failures. As long as they can keep attention riveted in some unseen forces resulting from institutional racism … then, they don’t have to answer the question: Why are black children failing in systems run by their own people?” Woodson has been a leader in the black community for decades, working to help communities improve and thrive. Currently, the 1619 project has been implemented by Chicago Public Schools, who repeatedly refused to respond to any questions from the Daily Caller. Buffalo Public Schools also implemented the “1619 Project,” telling the Daily Caller that it was added into the curriculum in part because “slavery is taught in a factually inaccurate, and devaluing manner.” “It’s obvious from the response you’re getting that the public schools are just embracing this curriculum coming from ‘1619’ and allegedly it’s being done to assist in improving the learning of students,” according to Woodson. “I think the fact is that all of the attention of 1619 is on external causes of black dysfunction, and rather than inspiring students to achieve, it’s providing the school system with another excuse for their failure. If they can convince parents and students that the reason that they’re underachieving has to do with some distant problem 250 years ago, then it exempts anybody from any responsibility to solving the problem.” Along with Chicago Public Schools and Buffalo Public Schools districts, the Daily Caller reached out to multiple individual schools within the district. Not a single school responded. Schools that ignored requests for comment included Chicago-based Belding Elementary, Acero Schools – of which there are fifteen, Back Of The Yards High School, Englewood STEM High School, Christian Fenger Academy High School, Infinity Math Science & Technology High School, Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy, Horizon Science Academy Southwest, Chicago Hope Academy, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and Hyde Park Academy High School. “We can certainly see a need for teaching students from multiple perspectives and the 1619 provides for our students with a diversity of thought on the topic and a curriculum of inclusion,” Buffalo Public Schools’ associate superintendent Fatima Morrell told the Daily Caller. “As we teach about the existing impact of status quo inequalities today, the 1619 Project provides a great addition to the standing curriculum.” Buffalo Public Schools began its implementation with “an initial roll-out with all 11th and 12th graders in the District receiving a copy of the magazine and engaging in activities from the podcast on ‘The Idea of America’ and lessons from the Pulitzer Center,” Morrell said. Lesson plans are already underway within the district, and teachers will be trained “at various points throughout the rest of this year.” “Principals, teachers, and students have expressed strong interest in the readings as the legacy of enslavement, and an accurate depiction of the atrocities of the institution of slavery have never been taught before,” according to Morrell. “There is a lot of interest, especially among students.” Buffalo Public Schools dodged the Daily Caller’s requests for responses to the concerns the historians raised. Buffalo Public Schools chose instead to focus on Silverstein’s public response to the historian’s letter, published in the NYT Dec 2019. “The very premise of the 1619 Project, in fact, is that many of the inequalities that continue to afflict the nation are a direct result of the unhealed wound created by 250 years of slavery and an additional century of second-class citizenship and white-supremacist terrorism inflicted on black people,” Silverstein wrote. “The rampant discrimination that black people continue to face across nearly every aspect of American life suggests that neither the framework of the Constitution nor the strenuous efforts of political leaders in the past and the present, both white and black, has yet been able to achieve the democratic ideals of the founding for all Americans,” he concluded. McPherson, a professor at Princeton University and one of the historians who wrote the concerned letter to the NYT, told the Daily Caller that they have all been “frustrated” by the publication’s response. So far, U.S. cases of the basic seasonal flu outnumber coronavirus cases by a factor of 45,000 (using federal stats for this year’s flu and real-time tracking of coronavirus confirmations). The flu season has even been especially bad this year, with between 20,000 and 52,000 deaths, compared to 29 so far from coronavirus. According to infectious disease expert Dr. Paul Carson, who works for the North Dakota public health department, the flu appears to be about five times more contagious than coronavirus, which means containment is possible, although especially for the elderly coronavirus appears to have higher death rates. Especially for the young, however, the flu is still more dangerous than coronavirus in the United States, said the U.S. surgeon general Monday. Yet did this year’s flu “pandemic” tank the stock market, get members of Congress on the House floor wearing gas masks, cause Americans suffering from the common cold and post-surgery pain to find no relief due to empty shelves at stores, and have the president stampeding to burn untold taxpayer dollars on “economic stimulus” amid decades of federal debt and deficits? No. As Wuhan virus trickled to U.S. shores, U.S. media have hyped Armageddon to, well, a fever pitch. But so far, the actual health effects have been minimal, while the social and economic effects have been serious. What accounts for the mismatch between hype and reality? A major factor is open media cheerleading for stock market crashes and economic downturns. Not only is it clear that corporate media can’t be trusted to provide accurate information about an issue of public concern, it’s clear they don’t care about public health or the economy. They care about destroying Trump, and if they have to ruin the U.S. economy to do that, that’s what they’ll do. On March 9, the “Politico Nightly Coronavirus Special Edition” email’s subject line was “America held hostage by coronavirus.” “The world is drowning itself in hand sanitizer and suffocating itself with fear,” hyperventilated reporters Renuka Rayasam and Sudeep Reddy. Now, why might that be, journos? Well, consider a few examples of what passes for news about a potential public health concern that only appears to matter this much because of the negative effects it could have on a president the media hate. Washington Post columnist Brian Klaas claimed in a March 9 column, “The coronavirus is Trump’s Chernobyl.” Chernobyl was the explosion of a nuclear reactor in the Soviet Union. Naturally, the communist government hushed it up and thus people went on with their lives instead of evacuating areas contaminated with radiation. This caused an estimated 9,000 to 16,000 deaths across Europe plus 3.5 million radiation-exposure-attributed cancers, birth defects, and other serious maladies just in nearby Ukraine. It’s funny that the Washington Post seems to be publishing no articles calling the Wuhan province-originated disease China’s Chernobyl. The comparison is, indeed, a much better fit for China than for the United States. That communist government also kept the existence and spread of the Wuhan virus a secret, which led to tens of thousands more cases than if it had instead acted quickly to prevent the disease’s spread, like the Trump administration, Taiwan, and Hong Kong did. It is the epicenter of the coronavirus, with reportedly more than 80,000 sick and 3,000 dead so far (although China’s numbers are not reliable and likely understated). It’s clear the Washington Post is more comfortable criticizing the president of their own nation even though his administration’s management of the threat has been far more transparent, immediate, and effective. Possibly there’s a connection between this editorial decision and the fact that the Post has been taking ad money since 2011 to publish literal Chinese communist propaganda disguised as a newsy, China-focused newspaper supplement. Covering for the Chinese Communist Party’s criminal neglect of its own people seems to be broader than the Post. Here it occurs through their favored moral preen of redefining what constitutes racism. David Gura is a weekend host for MSNBC News and previously worked for NPR. Then, of course, were the multitude of media comparisons between coronavirus and Hurricane Katrina. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman appeared to not be able to make up his mind whether coronavirus should be messaged as “Trump’s Katrina” or “weapons of mass destruction,” both of which damaged the George W. Bush presidency. A MSNBC panel last Friday also discussed with anticipation the possibility that coronavirus could be “Donald Trump’s Katrina.” “I should mention this with a little trepidation, but this may be Donald Trump’s Katrina,” said panelist Eddie Glaude Jr. “Let’s just lean into that for a minute,” responded MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace. “I mean, Katrina was the moment when all of the things that felt incredibly incompetent about the Bush presidency… were realized. We gave them a proof point that we were indeed incompetent. And also people died. I mean, this has the makings, structurally, for the same kind of moment for President Trump.” “And if there’s any a moment that would shake that 40 percent — the folks who would allow him to shoot someone right down Fifth Avenue — if there’s any a moment it’s this one,” Glaude responded. “Because it’s babies, it’s friends, it’s loved ones, it’s grand parents, it’s your nana. So it seems to me this is an event that could take down a president.” On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday, host Joe Scarborough commented to guest Richard Haas, an editor at the Financial Times, Trump “is unqualified and unfit to be president of the United States. And unfit at one of the most dangerous times this country has seen in, well, I’ll say it, since 9/11. We don’t know where this heads, but we know it gets much, much worse with this president.” Haas responded, “You mentioned 9/11, Joe. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. We’re in the early stages of a crisis where, I believe, orders of more magnitude of Americans are in danger. Put that on the table. We’re at a point where the numbers are going to take over.” As a reminder, 2,977 people were murdered by terrorists on 9/11, the deadliest terror attack in U.S. history. Due to their work digging people out of the rubble, approximately 10,000 first responders developed cancer, from which approximately 2,000 died. This comparison is utterly irresponsible at this point. All this conversation served was to scare the bejeebers out of people, to no good purpose, all for politics. It is probably no accident that the media’s hysterical representation of what so far is a tiny health problem with the potential to grow — but we don’t know how much — mimics the accusations Democrat presidential candidates were making against Trump just two weeks ago. From Democrats’ lips to the media’s megaphone to a public frenzy in just two weeks. Wash your hands, keep calm, and carry on, America. And hope the brokers managing your retirement and kids’ college funds are doing the same instead of listening to a bunch of know-nothings telling them to stampede.

For some malevolent reason he has yet to explain (his explanation keeps changing), Nakamura circled the face of a man he identified as “Trump’s lead secret service agent” and tweeted it out. “Trump has arrived on the Hill for the Senate GOP lunch to talk over ideas to bolster economy in face of coronavirus fears. I circled Trump’s lead Secret Service agent, just because,” the tweet read. After he was blistered for doing something so obviously reckless, Nakamura deleted the tweet, but here’s a screenshot. Breitbart News has obscured the face of the agent so we don’t contribute to identifying him. Nakamura’s first reason for revealing the identity of a Secret Service agent was, as you read above, a snarky “just because.” After he deleted the tweet, Nakamura tweeted out a second explanation. “I see there are questions about why I circled him,” he wrote. “No reason other than just to identify someone people might not recognize and also I wrote this today about Service role in safeguarding Potus in face of virus risk.” For obvious reasons, this explanation was met with derision and accusations of racism: Har har, look at the Chinese Secret Service agent escorting the president to a meeting about — wait for it, wait for it — coronavirus! Get it? Chinese guy! Get it? Coronavirus! *wipes eyes, laughs hysterically* Cuz the virus started in China and Trump has a Chinese guy protecting him and, yeah, that’s funny and I’m Japanese and part of the Washington Post’s anti-Trump #Resistance, so it’s okay for me to joke like this, and let’s not forget that anyone who protects Drumpf is a white supremacist, even if he’s Chinese and stuff, so here’s a good look at a white supremacist… Who knows what this moron was thinking. Anyway, after that explanation blew up in his left-wing face, Nakamura deleted that tweet and tried again. “I deleted an earlier tweet about the Secret Service,” he tweeted. “I wrote today about the agency’s role in dealing with the threat of coronavirus so I was interested in its tactics but should not have singled out its personnel. My apologies.” Why would any responsible person publicize the identity of Trump’s lead Secret Service agent? The whole idea of the Secret Service is the secrecy required to protect the one man who represents the will, ideals, hopes, and future of the American people. That secrecy is part of what shields the president. The media, at least until now, have protected the identity of Secret Service agents, going so far as to try and crop them out of photos, when possible. Need I even explain that if you are someone looking to harm the president, how helpful it is to know exactly who is protecting the president? In one thoughtless, mean-spirited tweet, a Washington Post staffer not only gave a potential assassin an advantage, this so-called reporter put a target on the back of this agent. What we have here is one more piece of proof that the very same media that has a national tantrum every time Trump violates what the media considers a cherished norm, is the same media so filled with rage and hate, they’re running around violating all the norms that actually matter. Forget about all those norms outlets like the Post have violated in their ongoing campaign to try and to destroy Trump — the reliance on unnamed sources the media know are lying, etc… Look at all the times the media have behaved in a way that put the president and his supporters in danger. Just don’t call the media the enemy of the people, though. Because that would be wrong.
