I love craft beer. If I were left with just domestic beers, I would not drink beer. About 12 or so years ago, I had an import, a Spaten Optimator at Old Chicago. And that opened the door to whole nother world of beer.
I use to chase the new beers, I was trying everything new. But it ran its course. Mrs Hermit and I were at Prairie beer event at Tapwerks, we were standing in line waiting to get our glass filled and just trying to make conversation with some young folks in line with us, and it turned into beer snobbery as these people began bragging about the cases of hard to find beer they had in the keggerators, or whether there was rust under the lid of aged bottles of Prairie Bomb.
Mrs Hermit and I looked at each other, and had the same thing on our minds, what in the fuck are we doing here.
We still enjoy craft beer because we enjoy the flavor of ales and stouts and such. But that whole scene has left us. We have a few favorite brands we enjoy, we buy those, and really don't pursue the latest. In fact, we go back to the old standby's like Great Divide Yeti, Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale, Founders All Day IPA .....those have been around a while.
Soooo , in OKC, we have six downtown breweries ( to best I can gather ) at the moment, with COOP out on Meridian getting ready to move to right next to the State Capital. Then there's Roughtail that's moving up to Memorial. And I see today there are three more breweries planned for downtown.
Dayumm... when will the market get saturated ?
Hell, a trip to the package store today offers a mind boggling selection of craft beers. And at some point, there's gotta be people like Mrs Hermit and I , who have been there, done that ............ man, IDK ....... the market is probably there, smarter people than me are investing in these breweries.
But that's more beer than Mrs Hermit and I can drink. And I'm too busy firing up the stick burner smoking meats, to go visit tap rooms all over town.
