Mario Duarte, Guatemala’s secretary of strategic intelligence, credited “policies of failure” pushed by Democrats in the State Department with driving migration from Central and South America to the U.S., offering his response to Beto O’Rourke’s analysis of the phenomenon in a Tuesday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak.

“As an official of the Guatemalan government, to be honest, there are many factors that have actually affected and caused the migration of our citizens to other countries, especially to the United States,” Duarte said. “Climate change, I would say, is somehow up there on the list, but in my view, personally, one of the major reasons we have this issue is because of the failed policies that Democrats have tried to impose on Guatemala and other Latin American countries.”

Duarte continued, “What am I talking about? To give you an example, we have had, in the past, State Department officials identifying themselves as Democrats. “On the day that President Trump was elected, those officials ultimately pushed for specific judges to be appointed to our highest courts in Guatemala — the Constitutional Court.”

Duarte went on, “And what happens when these magistrates or judges were appointed? They started with all these social justice warriors. [They] took away a lot of the rights of companies to be able to run their businesses in a fair way, and they even affected U.S. companies.”



Left-wing jurisprudence applied by judges and magistrates installed into Guatemalan courts under State Department pressure spreads unemployment and poverty, assessed Duarte.

“[One company]…. lost hundreds of millions of dollars because these socialist magistrates on the Constitutional Court that were put there — forced there — by Democrats in the State Department here in Guatemala,” Duarte stated. “Now you have all these companies closing down here, and all these people that are unemployed, they have to go somewhere to survive.”

Migrant caravans sent to the U.S. are “political weapons” used by leftists — both in the U.S. and abroad — to undermine American sovereignty, Duarte explained.



“That’s not an organic caravan,” said Duarte of migrant caravans originating in Central America. “That’s not simply happening because we are out of jobs. Those were actually provoked caravans. It is the weaponizing of those who live in our country. They have been used as political weapons [against] the border of the United States.”

Migrant caravans were organized “by several United States NGOs,” Duarte noted, “some of them in California and some of them in Chicago.” Left-wing U.S.-based NGOs “work with local NGOs in Guatemala and El Salvador to facilitate the movement of all these people to the United States.”

“The root cause of migration,” said Duarte, is “the lack of opportunities for people to work in our country,” adding, “Climate change is being used as an excuse for poor planning all over the globe” by those subscribing to “communist ideology.”



Duarte remarked, “It goes back to the policies of failure that people have tried to impose on Guatemala. I’m talking about … Democrats in the U.S. government, certain European countries, and even the UN. So we have socialist-oriented magistrates in the Constitutional Court forcing big companies [and] big businesses to shut down and lay off a lot of people, people with big families. These people have to eat and they have to survive, so they will look for an opportunity somewhere else.”

“These are the same magistrates, so you know, who are right now ruling against President Morales, and are trying to block him from signing this migration cooperation agreement with President Trump,” Duarte stated. “The same people that have shut down all these companies are also trying to block these agreements.”

Left-wing policies billed as “international development” stultify Guatemala’s economic development, said Duarte. Guatemalans want work, not welfare, he added.

“What we need in Guatemala is not foreign aid,” Duarte arraigned. “What we need is investment. We need companies to come in here, but we also need our judicial system to be left alone, because we are a capitalist country, in the end.”

Duarte continued, “We fought communism. We pushed it back. It didn’t grow roots in our society, but it was not routed out, unfortunately. Their policies of failure did not grow roots in our country. In the end, people want to work. They want an opportunity. They want to prosper on their own. They don’t want a handout. We don’t want Guatemala to turn into Venezuela or Nicaragua. We don’t want our people to end up eating their pets because they don’t have anything else, and that’s what some people are trying to force on us.”



Left-wing policies and associated political corruption damage Guatemala’s ability to attract investment and development.

“Investment is going to be secured and effective in our country only when rule of law is actually protected and implemented and not subverted by socialist ideas,” noted Duarte. “There has been corruption in our country for a long time. There is a difference between helping us combat corruption, and forcing us to adopt a socialist corrupt ideology in our system.

Heads of state must prioritize their citizens’ interests, concluded Duarte. “On the campaign trail, [Donald Trump] said he was going to put America first, and that’s what he’s doing. He’s putting the interests of the American citizen and the country first.”

In the aftermath of the shocking Bill Dudley op-ed, which has "opened a staggering can of worms", and prompted many to call the former NY Fed central banker "rogue"...

And sure enough, on Wednesday afternoon, Republican Senator Thom Tillis called for the Senate Banking Committee to probe the Federal Reserve’s independence after Bill Dudley infamously suggested the upcoming presidential election "falls within the Fed’s purview", hinting that it is ultimately the Fed - through its monetary policy - that picks the US president.

Tillis, who is up for reelection next fall in swing state North Carolina, said he plans to ask the Banking Committee’s chairman, Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), about convening a hearing “regarding Fed independence and the danger of this institution taking unprecedented and inappropriate steps to meddle in the presidential election."

Quoted by Politico, Tillis said "I am very disappointed that former Fed monetary Vice Chairman Bill Dudley is lobbying the Fed to use its authority as a political weapon against President Trump. The President is standing up for America against China after 30 years of our country and our workers being ripped off and there is now an effort to get the Fed to try to sabotage the President’s efforts.”

Dudley's op-ed was supposedly the result of an increasingly hostile relationship between the US president and the world's top central banker, which has culminated in a barrage of angry tweets by Trump slamming both Powell and the Fed for not easing more.




More recently, Trump slammed Powell saying “The only problem we have is Jay Powell and the Fed. He’s like a golfer who can’t putt, has no touch. Big U.S. growth if he does the right thing, BIG CUT — but don’t count on him! So far he has called it wrong, and only let us down.”
Of course, none of this tension between the president and Fed chair is new or unique, and for a far more colorful example of just how laughable the concept of Fed "independence" is, we go to the NYT with this brief but highly memorable anecdote from a meeting between President Lyndon B Johnson and Fed president William McChesney Martin
... in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson, who wanted cheap credit to finance the Vietnam War and his Great Society, summoned Fed chairman William McChesney Martin to his Texas ranch. There, after asking other officials to leave the room, Johnson reportedly shoved Martin against the wall as he demanding that the Fed once again hold down interest rates.
“I hope you have examined your conscience and you’re convinced you’re on the right track.” Lady Bird Johnson said to William McChesney Martin, on his arrival at the LBJ ranch.
Martin caved, the Fed printed money, and inflation kept climbing until the early 1980s.

Finally, while we doubt that anything will come out of the hearing on Fed "independence" as any actual discovery would reveal that the Fed was never actually independent (nor the ECB for that matter, which singlehandedly overthrew Sylvio Berlusconi in 2011 when it sent Italian bond yields soaring after it briefly stopped buying Italian debt), but an integral part of the US political apparatus (and privately owned to boot), we would like to repost this reaction to the original Dudley op-ed as it capture both the zeitgeist and what is coming next, perfectly:

This is so arrogant, cynical, ironic and completely disingenuous that it can’t pass without comment.

A $500B trade war does not tank the global economy. But a 10-year campaign to publicly bail out reckless private banks and insurance companies while blowing the largest most comprehensive debt bubble in history and then raising interest rates on $250T in global debt surely the hell will.

I don’t care who is, has been or will be President, the Federal Reserve and ONLY the Federal Reserve should be blamed for the tepid economy of the last 10 years. A world full of zombie companies, mountains of productivity-crushing debt and disconnected stock markets that reward a tiny minority of the citizenry with bloated “gains.” All this while regular people live hand-to-mouth saddled with stagnant wages and, dare I say it, daily inflation eating at their incomes.

For a Fed official to blame a paltry trade war for its own foolishness and THEN recommend the Fed purposely crush the economy with a deep recession in order to punish His Orangeness, is terrifying and nearly Soviet in its punitive childishness. Like all good technocrats, Mr. Dudley believes only his class of Brahmins may decide for you unwashed masses what is best. The Road to Hell and all that...

What is coming should be pinned forever on the hubris, blindness and arrogance of the Fed. Naturally, regular people will be hurt the most.

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 2020 presidential candidate Representative Tim Ryan (D-OH) stated that some of the top candidates in the 2020 Democratic field “have taken positions that will lose 48 states,” and specifically cited free health care for illegal immigrants, decriminalizing border crossings, and abolishing private health insurance.

Ryan said, “I think some of the lead candidates have taken positions that will lose 48 states, and I’m trying to figure out what the two are we’re going to win. I mean, if you’re talking about free health care for undocumented workers, and the average person in some of these states that we have to win are busting their rear end to provide health care for their own families and paying a lot of money for it. I think decriminalizing at the border is a mistake. If you want to come into the country, you’ve got to ring the doorbell and it should be a crime to just try to walk into the United States. I think the single-payer idea of telling people they can’t have their private health insurance, you’re going to go to all these union people in the industrial Midwest and tell them they’ve negotiated away wages to get really good health care, and you’re going to tell them we’re going to take that health care from you because we’ve got a better idea in Washington, DC? I think that’s a mistake.”

GREENVILLE, South Carolina — Former vice president Joe Biden told an town hall at Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Thursday afternoon that he would close down migrant shelters and detention facilities at the border.

Biden was asked by a Clinton College student what he would do to improve and help migrants in the facilities reunite with their families.

“Close them down!” Biden declared, to loud applause.

“No, no, no, no, no, no,” he continued. “We don’t need them. We [meaning President Barack Obama and himself] found that, when we were in office, in fact … [when] we finally got things under control, you have to report back for a hearing on such-and-such a date, people show up!”

Biden neglected to mention that many of the migrant shelters and detention facilities were opened under the Obama administration (or, as Biden refers to it, the “Obama-Biden administration), after a massive surge of unaccompanied minors to the border.

Moreover, the Department of Homeland Security recently reported to Congress that as many as 90 percent of so-called “asylum-seekers” failed to show up for their court hearings.

Other Democratic presidential candidates have also called for the facilities to be closed, including Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

It is not clear how Biden and the other candidates propose to care for unaccompanied minors who cross the border illegally, or for others arrested (or rescued) at the border.

Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed during a South Carolina town hall event on Wednesday that President Trump is revoking “automatic citizenship” for the children of American servicemembers born overseas.

Speaking to a crowd, Biden accused Trump of “taking away automatic citizenship of children of some of our military members serving overseas.”

“Our service men and women give everything to this country and this is the respect that President Trump shows for their service,” Biden said.
Biden’s accusation stems from a new guidance released by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency that is set to impact only about 20 to 25 children every year, officials confirmed.

Far from Biden’s claim, the USCIS rule does not revoke the citizenship of servicemembers’ children born abroad, but rather puts in place a system for which those parents apply for citizenship for their child.

The rule seeks to end the process of automatic citizenship for the children of beneficiaries of birthright citizenship and birth tourism who do not have a residence in the U.S. and whose children have not lived in the country.

Today, these second-generation “anchor babies” are provided with automatic American citizenship, despite having no connections to the U.S., solely because their parents benefited from birthright citizenship and birth tourism. There are about 4.5 million anchor babies in the U.S. with potentially countless more living abroad who have been allowed to transmit their citizenship to their children as well.

GREENVILLE, South Carolina — Former vice president Joe Biden told a town hall meeting Thursday evening that President Donald Trump’s judicial appointees have “no interest whatsoever in the traditional reading of the Constitution.”

He then caught himself and said: “I shouldn’t say ‘whatsoever.’ Don’t add that in there.”

Trump has prided himself on nominating constitutional originalists, who interpret the Constitution and the law through the original text as understood when written. Biden favors a “living Constitution” approach that interprets the Constitution and the law through a “penumbra” of rights beyond those actually provided in the text.

Biden was addressing an audience of about 400 in a local gymnasium to close out his two-day swing through the Palmetto State.

He began with his usual stump speech, claiming that President Trump had called neo-Nazis “very fine people” in “Charlotte” (he meant Charlottesville). In reality, Trump said the neo-Nazis should be “condemned totally.”

Biden added that there was a “direct line” between Trump’s rhetoric on immigration and the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, earlier this month. He cited the shooter’s manifesto — without noting that the shooter said he was not inspired by Trump.

Among other attacks, Biden also claimed that President Trump was abusing executive power, and pledged to restore constitutional checks and balances.

Biden did not mention that all of President Barack Obama’s major achievements after Obamacare were undertaken through executive actions — such as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the Iran deal, and the Paris Climate Accords — often circumventing Congress and directly contravening congressional will.

At one point in Biden’s attack on the president’s immigration policies, a pro-Trump heckler shouted from the back: “Best president we’ve ever had!”

He and a woman he was with were confronted by security, and escorted out. One Biden supporter tore off the heckler’s hat, though he later retrieved it from the floor.

Reporters later shouted questions at Biden about a Washington Post story Thursday that accused him of telling a “moving but false war story” on the campaign trail. He ignored the media and left the venue.

The former vice president is leading the state polls by a wide margin, thanks partly to his overwhelming support in the African-American community.

He focused his attention on the Upstate area, speaking in Greenville, Spartanburg, Rock Hill, and Gaffney.

President Donald Trump has launched an unprecedented economic campaign to free America from the world’s most cancerous economy. However, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is helping China survive it through policies seemingly designed to undermine Trump and help the left.

Powell is responsible for turning the president’s trade strategy into a never-ending trade war. Doing so has not only likely gotten his name in the running for China’s all-time favorite U.S. dignitary, but it has also provided the Never Trump media the ammunition it has needed to project the president’s base, particularly among farmers and middle-income earners, as deteriorating more by the day.

When Powell was first being considered for the post of Federal Reserve Chairman back in 2017, I publicly warned that Powell was an “insider in the pocket of financial elites.” And in December of this year, CNBC Mad Money host Jim Cramer contended that Jerome Powell is Trump’s worst re-election nightmare.

Powell’s recent statements and actions substantiate both of our concerns in more ways than one. He is way ahead of former New York Fed President Bill Dudley’s August 27 suggestion of swaying the 2020 election against Trump by using the Fed’s power to strengthen the hand of Xi Jinping and the Democrats.

Powell raised the U.S’s benchmark interest rate target four times last year at a time when China continually looked for ways to lower its own. By giving the yuan a much weaker standing in the exchange market, the Fed chairman provided the Chinese every incentive to flood the U.S. with cheap goods and U.S. businesses every reason to accept them. As a result of Powell’s actions, the U.S.-China trade deficit increased by nearly one million from January to December despite the White House’s implementation of hefty tariffs during that period.

Even after backing down somewhat from his aggressive hikes, Powell still found a way to help rig the economic data in the Democrats’ favor. Shortly after cutting rates for the first time in July, Powell said that the reduction was merely a “midcycle adjustment.” This announcement sent the stock market in a tailspin as consumers and investors began to anticipate higher than expected U.S. rates in the months to come. The media began to talk up a recession, all while playing up economy-centered polling that was unfavorable to the president.

All these decisions by Powell represent Democrat-First, not America-First, thinking. Then again, the Democrat-First mantra appears to be exactly what the Fed chairman is going for.

Powell has advanced the causes of the left directly as much as he has done so subtly. He’s even abandoned his supposed deregulatory instincts to help leading Democrat presidential candidates receive electoral victories.

For example, just weeks after Elizabeth Warren experienced a surge in national polling, Powell’s Fed announced plans to create a system to process instantaneous bank transfers, known as real-time payments (RTP). The timing of this Fed announcement was quite curious for a multitude of reasons, as this issue was one that Warren took up with legislation less than two weeks earlier.

With the private sector already connecting 50 percent of U.S. checking account volume to a RTP system, and near-100-percent connectivity expected in just a few years, there is no reason for the Fed to get involved. It will cut completely against the grain of Trump’s executive order requiring that for each new regulation, two be revoked. However, it will give a leading Trump contender a new stump speech talking point, and that seems to be all that’s important to Powell’s Fed.


There is no threat more significant to the president’s re-election prospects than the Fed chairman himself – and nothing would benefit the Communist Party of China more than a reprieve from the onslaught to its gratuitous economic and human rights abuses currently underway.

The White House needs to spend at least as much time fending off his aggression as they are in taming hostility from China. Failing to do so could produce devastating results come November.

Bernie Sanders wants a meat tax to combat climate change:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) revealed on Friday that he is open to imposing a federal tax on meat and other animal products in an attempt to preserve the planet’s natural resources and help to combat climate change.

“As you probably know, animal agriculture is to blame for the majority of climate change and is the leading cause of deforestation, water and air pollution, and biodiversity loss. With that being known, what do you plan on doing to ensure that Americans limit their consumption of animal products?” a constituent asked Sanders at a campaign event in South Carolina. “Germany has imposed a meat tax in hopes of limiting this consumption,” she continued. “What are your plans to stop these large corporations from further usurping natural resources and polluting the planet?”

Sanders replied, “All I can say is if we believe, as I do and you do, that climate change is real then we are going to have to tackle it in every single area including agriculture, ok? And in fact, one of the things we want to do with our farmers out there is help them become more aggressive and able to help us combat climate change rather than contribute to it.”

“So we will certainly – you’re right,” he added. “We’ve got to look at agriculture, we’ve got to look at every cause of the crisis that we face.”

Sanders is not the only Democratic presidential candidate who has emphasized the need for Americans to consume less meat.

In June, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) agreed with an interviewer from NPR after he stated that in order to get to net zero emissions, people will have to adjust their routine such as converting to all-electric cars, moving into smaller houses, having fewer children, and eating less meat.

“Yeah, we’re going to have to make an investment as a country. It is not going to necessarily be easy,” he said at the time. “Here’s our generation’s opportunity to meet a true existential threat of this moment and I’m confident that that’s going to bring out the absolute best in us – nothing to be afraid of, something to meet head on and to overcome and do it together.”

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) may have been the first Democratic candidate to sound the alarm on America’s meat eating habits.

Only days after Booker, an avid vegan, officially launched his presidential campaign, he received backlash for stating that the United States’ rate of meat consumption is unsustainable and further pledged to fight against “industrial agriculture.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), who represents a state where agriculture manufacturing is one of the largest industries, mocked Booker’s assertion.

“Cory’s a good dude, but Tofurkey is a crime against humanity,” Sasse said in February. “Everybody needs real food to survive – if that food happens to be a juicy, perfectly cooked, medium rare steak from a cow raised here in Nebraska, count me in.”

“Farmers and ranchers work their butts off to feed the world,” he continued. “And that’s not just sustainable, it’s honorable.”

Biden Channels AOC To Defend War Story That Never Happened

Last week, Joe Biden told an emotionally compelling story about traveling to Afghanistan as vice president to pin a Silver Star on a Navy captain who felt like a failure when he triumphantly recovered the body of a fallen comrade.

Although Biden claimed to be speaking “God’s truth” and swore on his “word as a Biden” when he recalled the incident, an investigation conducted by the Washington Post revealed the story to be inaccurate.

When the South Carolina Post and Courier confronted Biden about the Post’s investigation, Biden claimed that although he had not yet read the investigation, he believed that he delivered the “essence of the story.”

"The essence — that there’s anything I said about that that wasn’t the essence of the story. The story was that he refused the medal because the fella he tried to save —and risked his life saving — died,” Biden told the Post and Courier on Thursday. “That’s the beginning, middle and end. The rest of you guys can take it and do what you want with it.”

In reference to the Washington Post investigation, Biden said, “I don’t understand what they’re talking about, but the central point is it was absolutely accurate what I said,” according to the Post and Courier. “He refused the medal, I put it on him, he said, ‘Don’t do that to me, sir. lmost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect. Based on interviews with more than a dozen U.S. troops, their commanders and Biden campaign officials, it appears as though the former vice president has jumbled elements of at least three actual events into one story of bravery, compassion and regret that never happened.

Biden visited Konar province in 2008 as a U.S. senator, not as vice president. The service member who performed the celebrated rescue that Biden described was a 20-year-old Army specialist, not a much older Navy captain. And that soldier, Kyle J. White, never had a Silver Star, or any other medal, pinned on him by Biden. At a White House ceremony six years after Biden’s visit, White stood at attention as President Barack Obama placed a Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, around his neck.

The upshot: In the space of three minutes, Biden got the time period, the location, the heroic act, the type of medal, the military branch and the rank of the recipient wrong, as well as his own role in the ceremony.

Biden’s comment about the “essence of the story” is reminiscent of the reaction Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had during an interview with 60 Minutes, in which Anderson Cooper asked Ocasio-Cortez how she responds to critics who say her “math is fuzzy.”

As reported by RealClearPolitics, “Cortez said being ‘morally right’ is more important than being ‘factually right’ and that whenever she makes ‘a mistake’ it is not the same thing as President Donald Trump ‘lying about immigrants.’”

“I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right,” Ocasio-Cortez told Cooper.

CNN Editor-At-Large Chris Cizzilla criticized Ocasio-Cortez’ response, noting that while she is new to politics, “the high profile she already enjoys carries with it some responsibility. Namely, to get the facts right. And when you get them wrong, to correct it as quickly as possible rather than trying to justify the error.”

Unlike Ocasio-Cortez, Biden is on his third run for president and is currently polling as the front-runner in the Democratic primary.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday made the incredible claim that his proposed child tax credit would “put 720 million women back in the workforce.”

The former vice president was speaking at the Workers’ Presidential Summit in Philadelphia when he made the remarks about his proposal for an $8,000 child tax credit. He said his words made him “sound like a wonk.”

“You get a tax break for a race horse. Why in God’s name couldn’t we provide an $8,000 tax credit for everybody who has childcare costs?” Biden said. “It would put 720 million women back in the workforce. It would increase the GDP—to sound like a wonk here—by about eight-tenths of one percent. It would grow the economy.”

Considering only about 330 million people live in the United States at all, it is obvious he is incorrect. It’s unclear what studies or statistics he may have had in mind.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren hired a Planned Parenthood lobbyist to a key role in her presidential campaign Tuesday, just one day after Warren announced a plan that would “end lobbying as we know it.”

Warren unveiled an anti-corruption plan Monday that would introduce a “cooling off” period for lobbyists before they can serve in government roles and would prohibit active lobbyists from donating to political campaigns, a practice Warren called “legalized bribery.”

“The fundamental promise of our democracy is that every voice matters,” Warren’s plan states. “But when lobbyists and big corporations can buy influence from politicians, that promise is broken. The first thing to do to fix it is to end lobbying as we know it.”

The next day, Kimberly Diaz Scott, who registered as a lobbyist for the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates as recently as January 2019, announced that she was leaving the organization to head up Warren’s campaign in Florida.

“I won’t be far from the movement, as I’m humbled and proud to announce my transition as the Florida State Director for Warren for President, assuring that we will continue to fight like hell to elect a brilliant leader who will work to protect the health, safety and future of ALL people,” Diaz wrote, the Miami Herald reported. “2020 is not for the rich or selfish, 2020 is for us.”

Diaz first registered as a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood in 2015, according to Florida’s Lobbyist Registration Office.

Warren’s plan said lobbyists were effectively bribing politicians by donating to politicians, but her own political campaigns have received at least $95,000 from lobbyists between 2012 and 2018, CNBC reported. The plan would also enact a “cooling off” period for lobbyists, such as Diaz, from entering government jobs to ensure they’re hired for their expertise, not their connections.

“Under my proposal, current lobbyists won’t be able to take government jobs for 2 years after lobbying, with limited exceptions for when the hiring is in the national interest,” Warren’s plan states. “Corporate lobbyists will have to wait at least 6 years — no exceptions, and no waivers.”

The restrictions proposed by Warren would apply to “all lobbyists,” meaning that they would presumably apply to Diaz.

The Warren campaign did not immediately return an inquiry from the Daily Caller News Foundation asking if her proposed lobbying restrictions would apply to Diaz.

Williamson made the remarks while answering a question from a college student who wanted to know why she thought that nuclear energy was problematic.

"Well I know Germany had said at one point 'we're just going no nuclear,' but then when they said no nuclear there was a problem because they had a hard time keeping up with the other standards they agreed to," Williamson said. "What is wrong with it? If something goes wrong with nuclear energy, I don't think people have really stopped to take in the horror."

"See we need an integrated politics, we need to go beyond hard data, we need to go beyond just thinking about the facts," Williamson continued. "I want you to think about this with your heart."

The International Atomic Energy Agency reports (IAEA): "Nuclear power makes a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide while fulfilling at the same time the increasing energy demands of a growing world population and supporting global sustainable development. Nuclear power plants produce virtually no greenhouse gas emissions or air pollutants during their operation and only very low emission levels during their entire life cycle. As a result, the use of nuclear power avoids the emission of nearly 2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide every year – the equivalent of taking over 400 million cars off the road per year."

The IAEA notes that the Paris Climate Accord "points to a continued increased role in the use of nuclear power in the longer term. Its advantages in terms of climate change mitigation, as well as energy security and non-climatic environmental and socio-economic benefits, are important reasons why many countries intend to introduce nuclear power in the coming decades, or to expand existing programs."

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren appeared to stammer and waffle Wednesday when a reporter asked her if it would be ethical if her hypothetical vice president’s son served on the board of a foreign company.

“No,” Warren told a reporter at a campaign stop in New Hampshire before pausing to reconsider her answer. Warren added, “I don’t know. I mean I’d have to go back and look at the details.” The reporter was asking the question in context to Warren’s pledge to end corruption in Washington, D.C.

Warren’s comments come as Democrats consider what to make of former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, who served on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company that came under scrutiny by authorities there. Joe Biden’s son served on the company’s board while the former vice president served in the White House.

President Donald Trump has taken proverbial slings and arrows recently after acknowledging Sunday that he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open an investigation into whether Joe Biden called for the firing of a prosecutor to protect his own son.

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders appeared to take a different tack when asked about the Ukraine kerfuffle. The 2020 Democratic candidate did not confirm to reporters Tuesday whether he would use Hunter Biden’s past to win political points against Joe Biden, who is leading the Democratic presidential field. He also suggested a failed Trump impeachment might help the president.

Medicare for All is not free and will require anyone earning more than $29,000 a year to pay more in taxes, presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) said on The Late Show Thursday.

“Is health care free? No, it is not,” Sanders told host Stephen Colbert. “So what we do is exempt the first $29,000 of a person’s income. You make less than $29,000 you pay nothing in taxes. Above that, in a progressive way with the wealthiest people in this country paying the largest percentage, people do pay more in taxes.”

Sanders’s 2020 campaign website details the Vermont senator’s Medicare for All plan, but contains no mention of a tax increase on the middle class. Colbert confronted the Vermont senator about whether his proposal would lead to tax increases. Sanders acknowledged that taxes would have to rise if the government took control of one of the nation’s largest industries.

Sanders said people will no longer pay premiums, co-payments, or out-of-pocket expenses, offsetting the higher taxes once the government takes control of the health care sector. Sanders also said there will only be a private health care market for non-basic health care services, such as cosmetic surgery.
